House in Zoshigaya

雑司が谷の家は、マンションの部分リノベーションの計画である。
RC壁構造のマンションであり、玄関から居間食堂までに距離があることから必然的に生まれてしまう東西南北に走る廊下を活かすことがこの家の計画の主題となった。そこで、天井高さを抑え、砂漆喰塗で仕上げることで暗い洞窟のような廊下とした。この洞廊に漏れ出す光は、深い陰影を映し出し、改めて光の美しさや安心感、重要性を認識させてくれる特別な居場所となっている。また、アイストップにはR壁で光の階調やニッチをとるなどのディテール設計をすることで、自然な導きを生み、心理的に移動の距離感を感じさせない工夫としている。本計画では、主寝室の横に小さな書斎とWICを設けたことと、回遊できるように壊せる壁を抜いて導線をとった程度で、既存の間取りから大きな変更はない。窓廻りのプロポーションを整えて、簾戸や障子などを設え、設備器具の交換と既存下地や家具を生かした細かな改修が主な計画となっている。その理由は、4月の気持ちの良い季節に、初めて現地を訪問した時に遡る。雑司が谷のゆったりとした時間の流れ、高台から望む自然豊かな環境、心地良い風が家の中を抜ける。そんな環境に呼応するかのように、選び抜かれたであろう家具や小物と共に、建主は15年ほど暮らしており、家と建主の信頼で生まれる親密な空気が漂っていた。そこに身を置き程なくして、設計でやることは少ない手数であるべきだと確信したのであった。竣工し、建主の新たな生活が始まり、落ち着いた時期に訪問すると、かつての家にあった親密な空気感は変わらないまま気持ち良く暮らしているのを見てほっとした。長年住んだ家のリノベーションは、性能や機能性の向上だけでなく、目には見えない空気や記憶の継承をすることが建主の心にとって必要なのだと感じたのだった。
The house in Zoshigaya is a partial renovation project of an apartment building.
The theme of this house was to make the most of the corridor running east-west, north-south, and south, which is inevitably created by the distance between the entrance and the main room of the condominium with RC wall structure. Therefore, the ceiling height was kept low and the corridor was finished with sand plaster to create a dark cave-like corridor. The light leaking into this cavernous corridor reflects deep shadows, making it a special place that reminds us once again of the beauty, sense of security, and importance of light. In addition, detail design such as the use of R walls to create light gradations and niches at the eyestops creates natural guidance and a psychological sense of distance from the movement. In this project, there are no major changes from the existing layout, except for the addition of a small study and WIC next to the master bedroom, and the removal of a wall that can be broken to create a circulation line. The main plan is to make minor changes to the existing floor plan, such as the proportioning of the windows, the installation of screen doors and shoji screens, the replacement of equipment and fixtures, and the use of the existing base and furnishings. The reason for this project dates back to our first visit to the site in the pleasant season of April. The house in Zoshigaya has a relaxing flow of time, a rich natural setting from the hilltop, and a pleasant breeze blowing through the house. As if in response to such an environment, the owner has been living there for about 15 years with furniture and accessories that must have been carefully selected, and there was an intimate atmosphere created by the trust between the house and the owner. Soon after I was there, I was convinced that what I had to do in designing the house should be a small number of steps. When I visited the house after its completion and after the owner had settled into his new life, I was relieved to see that he was living there comfortably without changing the intimate atmosphere that had existed in the old house. We felt that the renovation of a house that has been lived in for many years is not only about improving performance and functionality, but also about passing on the atmosphere and memories that are not visible to the eye.
